Specific details on United States-Chinese fare negotiations are still scarce, but the main officials of the Trump administration stated on Sunday that the conversations had a little fruit.
“I am happy to report that we have advanced substantially between the United States and China in very important commercial conversations,” said Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, added journalists who added that a full informative session would occur on Monday.
United States commercial representative Jamieson Greer, who also participated in negotiations with a Chinese delegation led by Lifeng’s vice -president, suggested that some kind of treatment was made.
“It is important to understand how quickly we were able to reach an agreement, which reflects that perhaps the differences were not as great as they thought,” he told journalists. “That said, there were many bases that entered these two days.”
Beijing did not offer any confirmation. The White House did not respond immediately to a comment request.
At the beginning of Sunday, the White House was optimism that relationships are aimed at a new start, potentially decaving commercial tensions after President Donald Trump arrived in China with 145% rate and Beijing was retaliated with 125% of duty.
At such high levels, trade between the two largest economies in the world would reach almost total stoppage. Although both parties have allowed some fare exemptions, Bessent has previously acknowledged that the current situation is not sustainable.
A No comprehensive trade agreement was expected This weekend, but the fact that the two parties even speak was still a progress.
“I could say that what will happen in all likelihood is that relationships will be restarted. It seems that the Chinese are very eager to play ball and to renormize things,” the director of the National Economic Council, Kevin Hassett. told Fox News Sunday.
He said that Trump said “we are essentially starting from scratch with the Chinese, and they seem to think that they really want to reconstruct a relationship that is fantastic for both.”
Hassett’s comments on restarting relationships are echoing a publication on Trump’s social networks on Saturday evening.
“Today a very good meeting with China, in Switzerland. Many things were discussed, very much. A total restoration negotiated in a friendly, but constructive manner,” he wrote on his real social platform. “We want to see, for the sake of China and the United States, an opening from China to North -Americans. A great progress.”
