The European Association of Automobile Manufacturers (ACEA) has reported a fall in the new trade vehicle records in the European Union (EU) during the first quarter of 2025.
According to the body of the industry, the decreases were promoted by submissive economic activity, the reduction of the intake of orders in the previous quarters and a complex regulatory context that contributed to uncertainty in the sector.
ACEA represents 16 main vehicle manufacturers in Europe, including BMW, Daimler Truck, Ford, Stellalantis, Volkswagen and Volvo.
Vans registrations in the EU dropped by 12.2% compared to the same period in 2024.
Among the largest markets, Italy recorded the sharpest fall of 15.2%, while both France and Germany increased by 10.7%.
Spain emphasized as the only big market to register growth, and registrations increased by 12.6%.
Diesel continued to dominate Van Market, representing 82.5% of registrations despite a fall of 14% of volumes.
Sales of gas vans decreased by 25.8%, with a share of 5.2%.
Electric vans increased by 32.6%, increasing their market share to 8.7% of 5.7% a year earlier, while hybrid vans saw a marginal increase of 0.7%, which represented 2.5% of new inscriptions.
Truck inscriptions also dropped by 16%, with a total of 72,941 units, mainly due to a fall of 16.6% of heavy leg sales and a 12.5% drop in medium truck records.
All key markets experienced contractions, and Germany recorded the drill stronger of 25.4%, followed by France at 17.6%. Spain and Italy also reported significant reductions of 12.8% and 9.4%, respectively.
In the truck segment, Diesel remained the main type of fuel with a market share of 93.4%, even when volumes fell by 17.7%.
Electric truck records grew 50.6%, reaching a 3.5%share.
The Netherlands significantly contributed to this increase, with an increase of 342.7% of inscriptions, representing 25% of all electric trucks sold in the EU.
The bus registrations decreased by 1.8%, for an amount of 8,674 units. In addition, Germany recorded a 15%decrease, Italy fell by 7.3%and Spain fell by 0.5%.
France recorded a slight increase of 0.1%, while Sweden and Greece registered substantial growth, and registrations increased by 189.9%and 187.6%, respectively.
Electric bus registrations increased by 50.3%, increasing its market share from 13%to 19.9%.
Germany led the segment with 118.9% increase while Sweden registered 237 electric buses, up to nine only one year earlier.
Registration for hybrid electricity buses dropped by 28.7%, capturing 10.7% of the market.
Diesel buses decreased by 5.6%, reducing their market share to 65.9% of 68.5% in the first quarter of 2024.
