It is not usually the DOW that market observers do a better look at the S&P 500 market, but this is exactly what happened Wednesday.
The blue chip index increased by 300 points, or 0.7%, while the S&P increased by only 0.3%. Nasdaq compound dropped by 0.2%.
The Dow benefited from its relative lack of large technology companies. The alphabet, 7.3%, was a great drag in the S&P and Nasdaq, but it is not even included in the Dow. Apple, 1.9%, was one of three Dow stocks.
