(Reuters) -Openai has agreed to buy the windsurf of the artificial intelligence assisted coding tool for about $ 3 billion, reported Bloomberg News Monday, quoting people who know the subject.

The agreement has not yet been closed, the report added.

Openai refused to comment, while Windsurf did not immediately respond to Reuters’ Comments Requests.

Windsurf, formerly known as Codeium, had recently been in conversations with investors, including General Catalyst and Kleiner Perkins, to collect funding to a $ 3 billion assessment, according to Bloomberg News.

It was evaluated at $ 1.25 million last August after a $ 150 million funding round, led by the general risk capital firm. Other investors in the company are Kleiner Perkins and Greenoaks.

The agreement, which would be Openai’s greatest acquisition so far, would complement Chatgpt’s coding coding capabilities. The company has been developing improvements in the coding with the release of each of its newest models, but the competition warms up.

Openai has made several purchases in recent years to promote different segments of its products. He bought the Rockset Search Startup and database in a nine -figure agreement last year, to provide better infrastructure for their business products.

Openai weekly active users increased by 400 million in February, abruptly jumping from 300 million active weekly users in December.

The company also plans to raise up to $ 40 million in a new funding round by the Softbank group with a $ 300 million assessment.
