More than 10,000 Civil Service jobs will move to London

The United Kingdom government has presented plans to move 12,000 Civil Service jobs outside London and close 11 offices in the capital by 2030.

Pat McFadden, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, proposed on Wednesday proposals to transfer the papers to 13 cities and cities in the United Kingdom, including a new digital campus and AI in Manchester and an energy nucleus in Aberdeen.

Birmingham, Leeds, Cardiff, Glasgow, Newcastle and Tyneside, Sheffield, Bristol, Edinburgh, Belfast and York will also benefit from the planned work transfers.

The model is based on a program launched by the previous conservative government, which transferred 18,000 civil service functions outside London by virtue of its “level” agenda to address Regional inequality.

The Tories established a Treasury campus in Darlington, north -East of England, now populated by more than 1,000 officials and staying in one of the two permanent secretaries in the Department.

The Labor Administration will put a new emphasis on the transfer of prestigious policy roles, establishing a 50 percent goal of higher officials outside the capital in the late decade.

The program is hit with a new government The learning regime that will be launched later this year that will host school abandonments to the Civil Service, offering a route to reach its highest levels without having to work on Whitehall.

In the meantime, a new second -minute regime will place officials with the councils with the aim of developing deeper links between the central and local government.

“We are making more decision -making of Whitehall and we approach the communities throughout the United Kingdom,” said McFadden, who has commissioned all the departments of transfer of functions as part of the review of the expense that will be concluded next month.

He added that moving thousands of civil service features “will not only save taxpayers”, but “to make this government better reflect the country it serves” and “support economic growth throughout the country.”

The 12,000 full -time equivalent functions that moved to London amounts to 13 percent of the city’s civil service work force.

The proposal is part of the “ change plan ” of the Labor Administration, which is to refund the state in order to deliver its five basic missions for the Government: to grow the economy, improve NHS, face crime, turbocating the green transition and eliminating barriers to the opportunity.

McFadden aims to save about £ 94 million annually by closing almost a dozen government offices in the capital, including one to 102 Petty France, which houses 7,000 full -time staff.

The unions welcomed the plans, but urged the government to quickly clarify the details of the office closures in London. Dave Penman, Secretary General of the FDA Union, who represents the senior officials, said that the announcement would cause “uncertainty” for thousands of officials.

Mike Clancy, Prospect’s Secretary General, the second largest union in the Civil Service, said that the transfer program was “encouraging”, but added that he wanted to see more details of the Ministers’ review of the ARM’s bodies, which is likely to result in important losses of official jobs.

Manchester, which already houses a critical basis of the GCHQ and is a secondary center for the Department of Science, Innovation and Technology, as well as the Department of Culture, Media and Sports, is online for being one of the biggest beneficiaries of the workplace relocation program.
