City of Mexico (Reuters) – The Mexican telecommunications giant America Movil reported on Tuesday a 39% leap in its net profit from the first quarter compared to the same period in 2024, and cited an increase in operational benefit and a decrease in funding costs.
The company, which operates in more than 20 countries in Europe and Latin America, recorded a net profit of 18.70 billion pesos ($ 914.07 million) during the quarter.
The company’s income, controlled by the family of Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim, reached 232.04 billion pesos during the period, 14% year after year and only with an average forecast of L’EG of 233.3 billion pesos.
America Movil said that its basic results or results before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA), increased by 13% in the quarter to 91 billion weights.
The company added 2.4 million subsequent customers paid to the quarter, driven by gains in Brazil, Colombia and Mexico. There were a million disconnections in the pre-pagged segment due to falls in Mexico and Brazil, America Movil said.
The company’s executives said that in February they oversaw the prepaid clients in Mexico due to the concerns of the deceleration of the local economy.
