Microsoft committed its presence in Europe on Wednesday and protecting data from European citizens in a context of the growing “geopolitical volatility”.

Tech titan promises occur when the return of President Donald Trump has increased the relationship between the United States and Europe, reversing decades of North -American politics.

Trump has taken over the rules of the European Union against the Big Tech, dominated by the North -Americans, including Microsoft, threatening retaliation against any movement.

But Microsoft President Brad Smith made a positive note during a visit to Brussels.

“We are at a time when business must be a bridge through the Atlantic,” Smith said.

Microsoft is expanding its data center operations in 16 European countries and helps to build an artificial intelligence ecosystem on the continent.

He also wants to establish collaborations with European cloud players. Currently, U.S. technology companies (Amazon, Google and Microsoft) dominated the cloud market in Europe.

But the dependence on Europe on the technology of the United States has questioned the return of Trump and the threats of imposing tariffs, being in charge of Greenland and reducing support for Ukraine.

The worry is that Washington could use his technological domain as a weapon at any stop with Brussels if transatlantic ties, already tensioned, deteriorate even more.

For example, Europeans are concerned with access to North -Americans, it could be cut off if Trump, links with technological titans have grown, chose to use this leverage.

Smith of Microsoft alluded to this scenario in a publication of the blog published Wednesday without appointing Trump, describing -as “unlikely”.

But, Smith promised that, if Microsoft was asked to suspend or cease cloud operations in Europe, this measure would be “quickly and vigorously”.

“We are committed today that if any government in any place in the world issues an order that aims to force Microsoft to suspend or leave operations and support in Europe outside our data centers here, we will go to court,” Smith said to Brussels.

“We appreciate that it is a real concern of the people throughout Europe,” he added.
