The Singapore People’s Action Party won its 16th consecutive election on Saturday, increasing its part of the popular vote as voters in the country dependent on stability in the face of increasing geopolitical tensions.
The PAP, the winning streak dating back to 1959, when Singapore was a British colony, won 87 of the 97 seats in results that were announced in the early hours of Sunday morning, including five unconnected seats.

The Workers’ Party, the main opposition group, won 10 seats as it did five years ago, but will receive two so -called seats not from the constitution due to the proximity of the PAP in some constituencies.
Pritam Singh, leader of the Workers’ Party, acknowledged that it had been a hard campaign, before it had been found guilty to lie in Parliament in a case.
“The board is cleaned, we start working again tomorrow and we go again,” he said.
