(Reuters) Tesla sales fell to Europe in April, including a fall of 81% of Sweden at the lowest level 2-1/2 years, the data was displayed on Friday, as Europeans buy more Chinese EVs and a protest against the political opinions of CEO Elon Musk.
The sales of the car maker have dropped for four months in a row in much of Europe. During the first quarter, sales of all totally electric cars increased by 28% in Europe, while Tesla sales decreased by 37.2%.
In Sweden, the new Tesla vehicle sales in April fell 80.7% to the lowest from October 2022. Its sales in the Netherlands fell by 73.8% to the weakest of the month since 2022 and dropped by 33% in Portugal, a larger fall than the previous month.
Sales in Denmark fell by 67.2%, the data was shown on Thursday, while France reported a fall of 59.4%.
The figures will increase doubts as to whether the launch of a model and renewed in some countries can resuscitate Tesla’s fortunes in Europe.
Car buyers can already ask for a new model and in much of Europe, but Tesla websites in Germany, Britain, France and Italy say that estimated deliveries will begin in June. It will pass a couple of months before the sales data show if the updated version of the car has won the consumers.
With the time of production of production, its sales can grow again with other EV manufacturers, but every month of low performance threatens the group’s forecasts of the group, said Will Roberts, a automotive head investigation of the Rho Motion firm.
In the meantime, the group offers discounts on car loans and other financial incentives for the new purchases of their existing models in Norway, Sweden, Germany, Britain and France, to try to avoid demand.
Tesla fights against the competition of traditional automobile rivals, while new Chinese participants launch new and often cheaper.
“Tesla’s technological leadership has largely eroded with the current model of the model,” said Andy Leyland, co -founder of SC INSIGHT SUPPLIANCE CHAIN Specialist. “The competition of both Legacy Auto and Chinese participants will weigh sales.”
Musk, a close ally of United States President Donald Trump, has been involved in the Government Efficiency Department, giving efforts to reduce federal jobs. But he said that last week he would reduce the time spent on the Trump administration and would spend more time on Tesla.
The company’s first quarter automatic revenue decreased a fifth and the net profit caused 71%, both estimates of Wall Street.
On Thursday, its president Robyn Denholm denied a report by Wall Street Journal that Council members were looking for a new CEO.
