The Harrods Luxury department store have been led by cybernetics, making it the last major retailer in the United Kingdom to be a victim of the pirates in a matter of days.
The retailer owned by Qatar said that on Thursday his computer safety team had defended the attempts of pirates to “obtain unauthorized access to some of our systems” restricting Internet access to their stores and offices.
The attack to Harrods It comes a few days after Marks and Spencer and the cooperative were led by cybernetics. Incidents highlight the most intense safety risks for retailers with large customer databases and the growing need for robust cybernetic defenses in place.
M&S has not been able to accept online orders since last Friday and continues to struggle to fully restore their operations. Retail FTSE 100 revealed for the first time that their systems had been committed last Tuesday.
The cooperative was forced to close part of its computer system after discovering an attempt at breach, said Wednesday. The Mutual Property Group said that their operations were not greatly affected, with only a small impact on some of their Back-Office and Call Center services.
Harrods said that all his stores, including his branch Knightsbridge, H Beauty Chain and units of the airport, were open as normally and that buyers could continue to buy online goods.
“We don’t ask our customers to do anything differently at the moment,” the company added. Sky News first reported the cyber attack.
The three retailers spoke with the National Cybersecurity Center, helping them to understand the nature of the attacks.
NCSC CEO Richard Horne He said “the interruption caused by the recent incidents … They are naturally a reason for concern” and “should act as an awakening in all organizations.”
Jamie Smith, Cyber Security’s CEO of S-RM, a consulting firm that offers digital forensic services, said that retailers are usually an attractive goal for piracy groups due to their “large customer data bases with payment information … which are very valuable”.
He added: “This information acts as a leverage of extortion for an attacker”,
Lauren Wills-Dixon, head of data privacy of the Gordons law firm, said that Harrods’s response suggested that he had a “robust cyber safety plan” as “the attack has not affected sales.”
But he added: “This incident, and the threats similar to which co -operation and M&S face, highlight the importance of these measures and, in fact, the risk of retailers in an increasingly digital world.”
